Knowing the Market

Games

October 14th, 2008

Growing up our family played board games on Friday night. We would get together and have a huge dinner to end the week off. The dinner would be around 5 pm. We would eat for an hour or two; socialize about our days and dreams. Dinner would consist of the basics, steak and potatoes. After the dinner would come dessert. Pies and chocolate for dessert will do the trick. After the dinner and dessert we moved on the board games.

We played scrabble mostly. This was my favorite because of the thinking that is involved. I was able to learn about words and how to place them together. As a young boy this was great for my brain development and to enhance my problem solving skills. There were five of us and we all of us benefited from this. We always played that whoever won got the whole next week off from doing house chores. This really made the games competitive because doing house chores, as a kid growing up is no fun. My parents played like at our level so that they could help our mind grow as much as possible. Not only did I get smarter, but also I had the best social time with my parents and brothers and sisters that can never be replaced. Things are different today because of the television and video games. Back then we had to depend on others to keep us occupied and these build characteristics that have helped me out with my life.

Beat your stammer

May 24th, 2008

Apparently one percent of British people suffer from the speech
impediment called a stammer. In this article I describe how to
overcome a stammer and how to achieve fluency.

When I had a stammer, I used to be afraid of certain words
beginning with certain letters. Words which began with “b” were
especially hard to say. I also had problems with d, v, g, and p
words. I would avoid these words and also try to find
alternative words to say. This word substitution is something
that I regularly did, however I wanted to be able to overcome
this stammer once and for all.

I would see a potential job in the newspaper, my lack of speech
confidence would tell me not to apply for it as the interview
would be too difficult for me with the pressure of having to
answer all of the questions which would be asked.

When I was about sixteen I became drunk for the first time and
the alcohol gave me a huge but somewhat false confidence boost.
I now had no fear and was also able to talk superbly. Now I am
not saying that you should all be in a permanent drunken state,
however this showed me not only was I able to talk well but that
the stammer must not only be a physical impediment but also
physcological.

There are many forms of stammer treatments out there including
tradional speech therapy, group speech courses, one to one
speech courses and even hypnotherapy. I personally believe that
the way to go is one to one speech courses as every person who
has a stammer is an individual and has an individual stammer.

The Internet web directory age

April 29th, 2008

Websites are large Internet information sites, which limit category site owners with the number of category submissions that they want to list in a particular Internet web directory. Most Internet web directory sites will keep the number low, and let a whole web site place itself in two categories that are contained in their particular Internet web directory, but only if editors believe the web site is fit to be placed in those particular categories.

One of the requirements that must exist before an Internet website will qualify to be listed on an Internet web directory is that the website must contain a link on their web pages that would bring people back to the Internet web directory page. These Internet web directory sites are not found by keywords that are located on the information pages within the category, but are found by searching for the category by itself through Internet search engines.

An Internet web directory, however, is not a search engine. The information for a specific Internet web directory will be contained on a search engine. The linking back to that search engine, is one requirement that websites in the Internet web directory rarely uphold, because some of those websites will use a search engines content in their website.

Choosing The Right Resume Format

April 23rd, 2008

No one has the same history; that’s common knowledge. What isn’t so common, however, is that resumes do not have to be formatted the same way each time. If your work history, education and experience is different from another applicant’s, why should you have the same style of resume? Why not choose the format that best suits your abilities?

To help you decide which format is right for you, we include a list below to detail their differences and what situations they work best for:

Chronological: for those with long periods of employments and no gaping holes in work history, this is ideal. What a Chronological format emphasis is strong work ethic and a solid background in experience. Even if you have had positions that don’t necessarily relate to the job you’re seeking, you can still show that you have been employed and know what it is to work.

Chronological is also meant to show a progression in ability. If you’ve merely moved from job to job, taking similar positions each time, then that doesn’t reflect well. It shows a lack of ambition. Instead, a Chronological format should reveal your ability to move forward. If your first job was a shelf-stocker in a grocery store and the latest is now managing, you’ve improved.

Chronological order works well for those with lots of work experience, even when they are lacking educational background.

Functional: for those with little related work history but impressive skills, this format will do well. Functional de-emphasizes problems (you just graduated from school and haven’t yet found a job, you’re reentering the work force after an extended break, you’ve held odd jobs over the years). For those who lack a stable work background, this can provide an
alternative to the revealing Chronological order.

Instead, Functional focuses on what you have accomplished, rather than when you did it. Were you once the top sales representative at your job? Put it down–just downplay that it happened years ago. This format lists work history last, rather than displaying it up front as the Chronological style does. It, instead, lists skills and qualifications. For those with a less than impressive work history (whether you haven’t been able to find a job
you liked, or are just starting out in the workforce), this can serve you well.

It must be noted that some employers frown upon the Functional format. They believe it an easy way to cover up problems. For some, however, this is the only format that will offer them a chance to succeed.

Choosing the proper format is essential to creating a perfect resume; no matter how excellent your word choice or correct your grammar, you will not succeed with a format that doesn’t display your skills.

It is recommended that you use both formats and, after each is written, decide which one does your abilities credit.

Don’t be a Dork - Protect Yourself

April 1st, 2008

There are folks out there who use their powers for evil, not
good. Let’s not give them the opportunity to sneak into our
lives and wreak havoc. Submitted for your reading pleasure are
some of my tips to protect yourself and your identity.

Gone Phishin’ When I was a wee lass, my Grandpa George would
take me to the pond on a warm Saturday afternoon and we’d fish
for hours. Unfortunately, this type of Phishing has nothing to
do with warm fuzzy memories of my Grandfather.

Phishing (sounds just like fishing) usually arrives in your
inbox in the form of a spoofed e-mail message. It sure looks
legit, huh? Well, it’s not. Phishers blast e-mail messages in
the hopes you’ll take the bait and click the links, which will
redirect you to a fake website. What do they want? Your account
numbers, PIN numbers, SSNs: anything they can use to gain entry
to bank and brokerage accounts and other financial information.

Remember, your brokerage, bank, credit union and credit card
provider will never ask for this information via e-mail. They
will never ask you to login to your account to confirm
information.

If you feel you’ve been phished, do not access the links
included in the e-mail. Also, reporting the phishing to your ISP
and the Anti-Phishing Working Group
(http://www.antiphishing.org/).

The Paper Trail - Snatch that Receipt I bet you’re the type to
leave the receipt at the gas pump and at the ATM when you make
that late night deposit. Smack on the hand and shame on you -
stop doing that! Take ALL receipts when you make a purchase or a
deposit, when you return items, etc. When you go to the clothing
store, take the receipt out of the bag and place it in your
wallet.

Save all receipts until you receive your end-of-month statements
(see Two Dollars below). Also, don’t throw away your receipts;
see my notes on shredding

It’s … Like … Magic! Pet Peeve: Folks who use cheesy passwords
to protect their online accounts - you people make me crazy! I
recently hired a client and I’m managing several e-mail accounts
for him. Guess what password he used for ALL of them? You
guessed it: magic. I immediately changed the passwords on all of
the accounts and then we had a chat.

You should never use a word you can find in a dictionary as your
password. You should never use your birthday, the names of your
wife or children or dog as passwords. Use a combination of
letters and numbers and where possible, add special characters
such as a bang (!) to your password. Also, change your passwords
frequently, such as once a quarter or every six months.

What’s the “S” for, Anyway? Ever notice certain website changes
when you’re making online purchases? There’s an “s” which
appears after HTTP, for starters. This let’s you know you’re on
a secure server. Also, check the status bar on the window you’re
using to make the purchase. You should see a yellow padlock –
mouse over the lock and you’ll see the encryption level for the
site.

If you don’t see both of these items, do not make the purchase
right now and notify the vendor. Go back and make the purchase
at a later time.

I Didn’t Charge Two Dollars Every month, without fail, I want to
you check your statements from your credit union, bank,
brokerage, credit card companies — any institution from which
you receive a paper statement or an online statement. If the bad
guys have access to your account, they may try and slip in a
small charge before coming with the big guns. Take a look at
each and every line item and verify you’ve made the purchase. If
something is amiss, call that institution immediately.

The Joy of Shredding I have a special “shred” basket near my
desk and shred all of the basket’s contents at the end of the
work day. My personal receipts, which I no longer need and have
reconciled against my online statements, get shredded. All
working documents I’ve printed or proofed, especially for my
attorney clients, are blitzed at the end of day as well.
Anything which may personally identify me or one of my clients
gets the treatment.

You have no logical excuse for not owning a shredder. Price?
Hardly an issue. You don’t have a car to get to the office
supply store? If you’re reading this article that means you’ve
got internet access. Start a new browser window NOW and access
your favorite online office supply vendor. You’ll have your new
shredder in a matter of days and you too can become a Shredder
Queen (or King).

We live in a different world from just a generation ago. Be
smart, be aware and remember that if something seems too good to
be true, it is.
