Ski Vacations for the Environmentally Minded Skier
Dozens avid skiers will presently be searching for their salopettes and scooting forth in search of the greatest snow.
And without doubt the results of our carbon footprint will be roughly as far down the list of vacation essentials as a Christmas cracker after Christmas.
Merely last winter, a tardy snow made the the broadsheets and holidaymakers were panicky about the flakes of snow melting almost as soon as they landed.
Snowboarding organisation Chalet1802, located at the base of Mont Blanc in Chamonix Haute Savoie France in the Alps, is one of the first independent firms to go carbon negative and give snowboarders an environmentally friendly option while organising their ski vacations.
Chalet1802 proprietor Tosha stated: Last year was a bit of a shock with the hottest wintertime in fifty yrs in the French Alps. French ski fields for example Montroc, La Clusaz and Bessans lacked clients. It was balmy and the snowfall did not last so a lot of the early season skiing season in the Alps was patchy. We resolved to go carbon negative to help preserve the snowboarding resort.
Tosha said: We’re not seeking to prescribe to punters but I consider it is important to provide the clients the choice without augmenting the cost of the vacation. When they book with us and takes his annual leave in our Chamonix chalet they can more than off-set their carbon output and we absorb the extra prices. Of course we still have a sauna and a hot tub - customers wish for luxuriousness but not at the expense of the environs, so we looked at methods of diminishing the impact of a skier traveling over here for a snowboarding holiday.”
The business have moreover partnered with organisation Climate Care, who tackles global warming by providing C02 deductions for people and firms.
